Others believe that Germany should move against the USSR in June.

The date given is May 15, 1941, but due to events in the Balkans, the date of the speech was postponed to June 15, 1941. In Berlin circles, they believe that the Red Army is easy to defeat, since it concentrated its main forces on the central sector of the front. The deadline for accepting proposals is June 23, 1941. I am convinced that within a few weeks after the start of the war, the most important parts of the USSR will be occupied by the Germans. Preparations for this campaign, unprecedented in history, are underway.

Then the Germans would have been able to occupy most of the country's territory, but would not have been able to defeat the Red Army in the first phase of the war.

The embassy was instructed to immediately send all children and women. The German naval attaché and his staff received instructions to leave Moscow. Hilger received a telegram that the war was decided. Hilger stated that it was now absolutely clear that war was inevitable.
54	"X"	20.6.41 g	June 23, 1941	The departure of the naval attaché and children has been effected. More diplomatic couriers have been instructed not to leave Berlin. Representatives of industrial firms in Moscow received instructions (telegrams) to immediately leave for Berlin.
