Selected Correspondence with Stalin from the Diary of G. Dimitrov

These are very much related to current and important selected notes from the diary of Georgi Dimitrov mostly with his correspondence with Stalin. It covers entire period  of 1934 - 1949, so it is very long, thus I will be publishing in sections as I read and take notes on.

We should bare in mind that these are short correspondence and mostly related to larger subjects, thus some statements should not be taken by itself , isolated from the entire content of subject. That has been the case in general and  in specific related to the this book  for the bourgeoisie and right and left revisionist in their falsification and misleading the masses. I will be noting these specific issues as I publish the related correspondence and the subject.

On this correspondence, Stalin stresses an important subject which is related to forgotten assessment of  Engels in  " The condition of working class in England" where he states:
“The truth is this: during the period of England’s industrial monopoly the English working-class have, to a certain extent, shared in the benefits of the monopoly. These benefits were very unequally parcelled out amongst them; the privileged minority pocketed most, but even the great mass had, at least, a temporary share now and then. And that is the reason why, since the dying-out of Owenism, there has been no Socialism in England. With the breakdown of that monopoly, the English working-class will lose that privileged position; it will find itself generally — the privileged and leading minority not excepted on a level with its fellow-workers abroad. And that is the reason why there will be Socialism again in England.
This short paragraph tells more about " the chain-order  of world revolution", and the 'importance of  " anti-imperialist wars", as does Stalin's statement in this correspondence.

In addition, this statement of Stalin, defies the Yale's, Harvard's and such other writers' insidious claim that, their study of books Stalin read, and based on his  notes on books,  "reveals he was not very found of Engels."  EA

with Stalin - Kremlin

(..)

It must be patiently and intelligibly explained to the European workers why Parliamentary democracy can no longer have any value for the working class. Earlier in their struggle with feudalism , the bourgeoisie brought the working masses along with it through democracy and made certain concessions to this end.  Now that they have conquered feudalism and face new enemy - new proletariat - and must overcome great difficulties, given the crisis of capitalism, they can no longer govern using the methods of parliamentary democracy. They are on the way to fascism. And in all countries the bourgeoisie will proceed to fascism. In England also, although in different forms.
(...)

Don't grumble about parliamentary democracy, but explain this development the the working masses !

Dimitrov : In prison , I thought a lot about why - since our teaching is correct - millions of workers in decisive moments do not join us but stay with social democracy, which has behaved so treacherously or as in Germany, even become National Socialist.

Stalin: And your conclusion?

Dimitrov: I believe that the main cause lies in our system of propaganda, in our incorrect approach to European workers.

Stalin: No , This is not the main cause. The main cause lies in historic development  - the historic connection that the European masses have with bourgeois democracy. Then in Europe's special situation -  European countries do not have enough of their own raw materials, coal, wool, etc. They are dependent on colonies. Without colonies, they could not exist. The workers know this and fear a loss of colonies. And in this connection they are inclined to go with their own bourgeoisie. Internally, they are not in agreement with our ant-imperialist policy. They are even afraid of this policy. And Just for this reason it is necessary to explain patiently and approach these workers correctly. A constant struggle for every worker is necessary. We cant't immediately and so easily win millions of workers in Europe.

The millions of masses have the psychology of the herd. They only deal through their representatives, through the leaders. Wen they lose trust in their leaders, then they feel powerless and thought loss. They are afraid of losing their leaders. And therefore the Social Democrat workers, although not satisfied with their leaders, still follow them. They will abandon these leaders when other, better ones are already at hand. And this takes time.

Manuilsky doesn't understand this. Each year he prophesies proletarian revolution and it does not happen. He once reported insurrection in a place where there was none. ..

People do not pay attention to details. And the details usually clinch matters. They do no Marxist analysis. For my report, I called varga *Jeno) and demanded numbers on the crisis. Astounded and shocked, he asked me: which numbers? Such numbers exist, I said to him. Correct numbers?
--- Yes, ofcourse--- correct!

He brought me the numbers. And breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, he said, there are people who love the truth!

Just imagine, he was afraid to give the correct numbers in the CI (Communist International), because he would immediately classified as a right opportunist..

He couldn't decide to publish this report without my approval!

Molotov: Yes, Varga is a good scholar, but a coward!

Stalin: People do not like Marxist analysis. Big phrases and general assertions. This is still the legacy from the time of Zinoviev.

Ah, in this connection Lenin was very accurate, and how accurate!
