DPRK points out that US provocations and military aggression are entirely to blame for the present situation in Europe.
North Korea defends Russia in highest-level statement on Ukraine crisis so far
DPRK foreign ministry dismisses concerns about ‘respect for sovereignty’ as it blames US for NATO expansion

The U.S. and the West have “systematically undermined” European security by pursuing NATO expansion, a North Korean foreign ministry spokesperson said Monday, rejecting concerns about “respect for sovereignty” in the country’s highest-level statement on the war in Ukraine so far.
But the country’s state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper and other media available to domestic audiences in the DPRK have still yet to report on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine since it began last week.
“The U.S and the West, having devastated Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, are mouthing phrases about ‘respect for sovereignty’ and ‘territorial integrity’ over the Ukrainian situation which was detonated by themselves. That does not stand to reason at all,” the unnamed spokesperson reportedly told Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the country’s state-run outlet for external readers.
Comments from North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have different levels of weight depending on their format. The spokesperson’s “answer” to KCNA was directly attributed to the MFA, relatively more official compared to an earlier article criticizing the U.S. for the Ukraine crisis but attributed it to an individual researcher.
“The root cause of the Ukraine crisis totally lies in the hegemonic policy of the U.S. and the West which indulge themselves in high-handedness and arbitrariness towards other countries,” the MFA spokesperson said, reiterating an argument from the Feb. 26 article and assessing that “the U.S. piles up sanctions and pressure against Russia with the Ukrainian crisis as a momentum.”
The latest statement echoes Russia and China’s official stance on the invasion. Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Feb. 24 criticized “the eastward expansion of NATO” in a televised speech justifying the invasion of Ukraine, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said Russia’s “legitimate security demands” should be taken seriously.
“The new statement follows Beijing’s line in blame-shifting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine onto abstractions like the ‘hegemonic policy’ of the U.S. and NATO expansion,” said John Delury, a professor of Chinese studies at Yonsei University. “It’s all America’s fault, in other words.”
Claiming the U.S. is “shaking international peace and stability,” the MFA spokesperson said the Ukraine crisis is further proof that the world will not achieve peace “as long as there remains the unilateral and double-dealing policy of the U.S.” — deploying a favorite phrase to attack what it sees as Washington’s duplicitous policy toward Pyongyang.

The greatest danger the world is now faced with is the high-handedness and arbitrariness of the United States and its vassal forces, which are shaking international peace and stability at the base.
The USA’s unilateral and unfair cold war mentality and its bloc-forming external policy make are transforming the structure of international relations into the one of a new cold war, and they are straining politico-military situations with each passing day, spawning new and knotty problems all over the world.
Looking back, we can see that the outbreak of two rounds of world war, which brought horrendous calamities and pain to humanity, originated from the greed of imperialism. Likewise, all the wars, big and small, of the last century are related, without exception, to the moves of the imperialists to interfere in the internal affairs of others.
In particular, the air war conducted by Nato against Yugoslavia at the end of the last century brought to light the extent of US and western hypocrisy regarding their much-touted ‘global peace and stability’, ‘territorial integrity’ and ‘safeguarding of sovereignty’, exposing in all its nakedness who is the real destroyer of international peace and stability.
The Iraq war, the Afghan war and other ‘colour revolutions’ that brought tragedy in the 21st century clearly substantiate the fact that the USA and the west continue to follow the policy of hegemony by fair means or foul.
The present international order shows that it has become an immutable law that seeds of discord are sown in every region and country where the USA intervenes, and that relations between states deteriorate accordingly.
The root cause of the Ukrainian crisis lies in the high-handedness and arbitrariness of the USA, which has used unilateral sanctions and pressure while pursuing global hegemony and military supremacy in disregard of the legitimate demand of Russia that its security should be respected.

DPRK foreign ministry slams US statements on Russia’s invasion in Ukraine as wild rumors
The West and Kiev have recently been echoing allegations about Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine
MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. The United States’ and NATO’s actions in Eastern Europe are threat to Russia’s security while Washington justifies its actions by "wild rumors" about Russia’s possible invasion in Ukraine, the North Korean foreign ministry said on Sunday.
"The United States is gradually escalating its military threat to Russia by deploying its missile defense systems in the areas of Eastern Europe and projecting the NATO military forces in the forward areas close to the Russian border, while continuously carrying on with the NATO’s eastward expansion in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union," it said in a statement posted on its website.
"The U.S. is recently proliferating the wild rumor of "invasion of Ukraine" by Russia and rushing to dispatch thousands of military forces into the areas of Eastern Europe. The real intention of these moves are to aggravate the military tension around Ukraine step by step and to find an excuse to justify its arms build-up designed for containing Russia by strength," it said.
"NATO, a product of the Cold War, is apparently a military organization driven by aggression and domination, and the purpose of its continuing existence and expansion lies indisputably in militarily containing and suppressing Russia," it stressed, adding that attempts at exerting pressure on Russia will only entail a stronger response from Moscow, since Russia "is determined to fight for defending its security and interests."
The West and Kiev have recently been echoing allegations about Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov castigated these claims as "empty and unfounded", serving as a ploy to escalate tensions, pointing out that Russia did not pose any threat whatsoever to anyone. However, Peskov did not rule out the possibility of provocations aimed at justifying such claims and warned that attempts to use military force to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine would have serious consequences.
