CPN-UML (Nepali Communist Party Joint Marxist Leninist) Statement
By Shankar Pokhrel and Pradeep Gyawali
(From the Party Secretariat)
Respected friends and colleagues,
You all are well familiar with the extraordinary situation arising in the country. During the Gen-Z-led movements that started primarily against corruption and other issues, police shootings tragically damaged 19 young lives and injured more than 400 people. The whole country is in deep shock and sorrow due to these heartbreaking incidents.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their lives and express our deepest condolences to their bereaved families. We wish speedy recovery of the injured. We firmly believe that there should be an impartial investigation into the incident and action should be taken against the guilty as per the law.
Widespread violence and destruction
The wounds of this tragedy were still unhealed that the violence, arson, sabotage and looting spread across the country yesterday stunned again.
• Major government institutions—in which have destroyed the Federal Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Historical Singh Darbar, Supreme Court, Attorney General’s Office, Police Office and hundreds of other structures—.
• Priceless and rare records, documents and records have burned to ashes.
• Hotel, departmental stores, cable car stations, automobile showrooms, banks and many public and private properties have suffered billions of rupees in loss.
• Thousands of convicted prisoners, including convicted of serious crimes, have escaped from prisons.
• Political party offices, leaders and activists have been targeted and attacked.
These devastating events have pushed Nepal's development decades back and left the whole society in deep shock and shock.
Fair investigation is required
Despite guaranteeing peaceful demonstrations earlier by demonstration organizers and their clear denial of involvement in these devastating events, we demand urgent and comprehensive investigation to determine the following:
• Who carried out these violent acts
• How they were organized
• Which groups or forces were involved
We also believe that there should be serious review of the role of state security agencies during these incidents to ensure accountability and transparency.
Appeal for unity, patience and hope
In this important and challenging time, we invite the entire party organization and all colleagues to:
• Stay firm, united and future oriented
• Keep close communication with each other
• Work collectively to find solutions
• Coordinate with administrative officers to protect public and private properties
• Help maintain law and order
• Provide relief and support to the needy
Our journey hasn't been easy so far. We have endured:
• Nirank administration (Monarchy ??)
• Armed Conflict (Toppling Monarchy?)
• Deep social division
• natural disasters and man-made crisis
Despite these challenges, we always faced them and overcome them. This adversity will change too, and we are confident that we will emerge stronger together.
Political solution from the constitutional route
After the resignation of the Prime Minister, the political path should be searched within the structure of the Constitution and democratic norms.
We call on the Hon'ble President to take necessary initiatives for the following:
• Providing meaningful and result-oriented communication
• Addressing the demands of youth and Gen-Z protesters in a constitutional way
• Ensuring good governance, efficient public service delivery and rapid growth
We firmly believe that Nepal's democratic republican system and multiparty competitive structure should never be undermine. Any solution to crisis should strengthen democracy, not weaken it.
Demand for security and order
We strongly urge Nepal Army and all security agencies that:
• Control violence, looting and arson happening across the country
• Ensure the safety of the lives and property of citizens
• Restore law, order and stability effectively and immediately.
Final Note
In these difficult times, the nation, democracy and the communist movement are all facing serious challenges. We are firmly confident that our partners will play a creative role in protecting these pillars and leading the country towards stability and unity.
